“We’ve been able to keep the doors open thanks to our overnight volunteers. Their dedication to our families has been unwavering over the last six months.” Kristen, House Manager.
For overnight volunteers working through the pandemic, it has certainly been a very different experience. The closure of all communal areas in our Houses limiting the opportunity to connect and have a chat with families, makes for a very quiet volunteering shift.
“It’s all for the greater good that we’ve had to make changes to the House, but I do miss connecting with families.

“Often families just want someone to have a conversation with and to unload to and with COVID all of the families are staying in their rooms, but I’m glad we’re still able to support families”
“It’s has been much quieter in the House. But things are starting to get back to normal and I can’t wait to have the children having fun running around the House again.”

“Ronald McDonald House is a sanctuary for families to take a breath when they are going through the most horrendous and scary times, a place usually so filled with love and laughter. During COVID I miss seeing families enjoy the House as they are isolating in their rooms. Thankfully as lockdowns ease the House is coming out of hibernation and starting to feel like the home away from home that it’s meant to be.
